Dear Earthshot allies and friends,

You could see it on their faces.

It’s not often you attend a climate event and see this much excitement, this much radiance and joy and hope, yet those emotions were on full display the night of September 20th when the Earthshot team hosted our first Nature X Carbon event in New York City.

Originally we had booked a place that held 80 people, but as the date approached and registration numbers grew, we had to secure a larger venue.

All told we had over 250 attendees from across the carbon finance and nature-based solutions industry. It was our largest event to date.

We were pleasantly surprised by the level of enthusiasm this event received.
As others have told us, Earthshot Labs is quickly gaining attention in the carbon market space, and a lot of NY Climate Week attendees wanted to check us out. We’re grateful for that, of course, but we also know it’s not just about us. As a mission-driven B-Corp, we want to see everyone in the nature-based solutions space thrive, and that open-hearted ethos is infectious. You could feel it in the room.

Of the many things we learned from our conversations that night, one thing was clear: there is an immense amount of talent going to work on planetary restoration. Given the experience of our attendees, we knew that our convener’s task as was to tap into the wisdom already in the room.

A lot of Climate Week consisted of sitting and listening to panels of experts saying important-sounding things to each other, but leaving the audience largely out of the dialogue. But the people who attended Climate X Carbon came to engage. They wanted to dig in and push each other to move the needle on planetary scale restoration, and so our task was to frame the conversations in a way that helps elevate the whole industry.

Earthshot is a climate finance company. We’re also a climate tech company, a project developer, and an incubator for ecological science. After our recent experience in New York, building on our ongoing Carbon X Nature events in the Bay area, we can add another role to our list of offerings: convener.

Which brings us to some exciting updates, including ways you can engage with us:

Listen:
we’ve just released Episode 5 of The Earthshot Podcast: “Carbon Markets Demystified” with Oliver Miltenberger.

Hosted by Earthshot co-founders Troy Carter and Patrick Leung with longtime climate activist Armando Davila, the Earthshot Podcast brings you conversations with leaders in climate justice, climate tech, carbon markets, and beyond who all agree that healing humanity’s relationship with nature must be at the core of addressing the climate crisis.

In this episode, Oliver Miltenberger joins hosts Patrick Leung and Armando Davila to demystify carbon markets and to share his insider’s view of the exciting threshold that the evolution of carbon markets has currently arrived at. Oliver breaks down the complexity of the past, present, and future of the markets and then takes listeners beneath the surface into deeper issues that the market can be a vehicle for addressing. This illuminating conversation is a perfect mix of mind and heart that will leave you feeling informed and inspired.
