November/December Newsletter
Dear members of the Earthshot community,
Earthshot Labs has added many new faces to our team over the past year and we are continuing to build a remarkable and diverse community to support our mission of ecological regeneration at planetary scale.
In mid-October our team gathered in the Catskills to (re)connect and reflect on the year that has passed and prepare for the year to come. These retreats are an integral part of the culture Earthshot is building — a culture that values restoring human connections with one another and with the natural world.
When we walk away from these gatherings, many of us are left with a deep sense of gratitude, not only for our coworkers, but for all the other communities working to support ecological restoration.
As the year draws to a close, we are glad to share that sense of gratitude with our newsletter community and offer some updates about what we’ve been up to in recent months as well as a glimpse of what lies ahead.
As always, there are many ways to stay engaged with us:
INVEST
The Business Development team has been deeply focused on investment conversations for our active projects:
5 projects including ARR and REDD+ across 300,000+ hectares for catalytic financing (~$3M total)
6 ARR projects out for full finance (~$135M)
20+ active projects coming online over the next 6 months.
Earthshot Labs is also expanding into blue carbon projects: the protection and restoration of coastal mangrove forests. We currently have five projects in the initial cohort that will be out for finance on a rolling basis in the next 1-6 months.
If you represent a corporation or institutional investor interested in supporting these projects or joining a corporate buyer consortium, click here to view our projects on LandOS that are currently out for finance or reach out to our team: partner@earthshot.eco
Our Business Development team has tripled since the last newsletter - we are delighted to welcome Leigh Madera, Jeffrey Caston, Simón Torres, and Sheldon Zakreski.
Connect with us!
If you attend climate conferences, be sure to say hello and reach out to connect in person. We have some exciting upcoming engagements, including Simón Torras’ presentation at the NOAH Conference in Switzerland, Celia’ Francis' upcoming Nature-based Solutions Breakfast Club in London, and Jeffrey Caston’s attendance at COP15 in Montreal.
Reach out to us via LinkedIn so we can connect in person.
GATHER

Our world-class science team is one of the defining features of Earthshot Labs. To achieve reforestation at scale, we depend on our team of ecological and data scientists to create the models for biomass projections and risk assessment.
Of our twenty-seven full-time employees, five of those are PhD-trained ecosystem scientists. Make that six. Dr. Trevor Keenan just joined Earthshot as our Chief Scientist.
To learn more about Trevor and what brought him to Earthshot (and why a pint of Guinness really tastes better in Ireland), check out our interview with him, here
LISTEN
We wrapped up the first season of our podcast with three interviews that nicely encapsulate what Earthshot is all about — harnessing the power of markets, working in solidarity with indigenous and frontline communities, and leveraging the insights of leading scientists.
Maryanna Saenko (Episode 6), an early-stage venture capitalist, shares her perspective on how investing in technology can help build a bridge from the structures that currently exist to the structures that we want to see in the world.
Corrina Gould (Episode 7), chair and spokesperson for the Confederated Villages of Lisjan, joins us for a deep conversation about rematriation and decolonization.
Susan Cook-Patton (Episode 8), a senior scientist at the Nature Conservancy, give us a deep dive into the science behind carbon and nature-based climate solutions.
Stayed tuned for more great conversations in the year to come!
With warm wishes,
The Earthshot Team
